Less than a year ago, Cristy Giles, 24, was dropped off dead at a hospital in Culver City. She had been taken there by 3 men who stated that they had “found her passed out on a curb”. Shortly thereafter, the same 3 men dropped off Hilda Cabrales Arzola, 26, at a different hospital in L.A.. She was alive, but in a coma. She died 11 days later due to organ failure. Both deaths have been ruled homicides.
How did this play out? The night before, the women had been at a rave in downtown L.A. and had met a man named David Pearce. Pearce was an aspiring actor and had recently been an extra in a NCIS episode. After charming the women and giving them what looked like lines of coke at the rave, these two young ladies got into Pearce’s car with two other males who were friends of Pearce. Shortly after arriving at Pearce’s residence, Cristy texted Hilda “Let’s go”, Hilda texts back, “Yes, I’ll call an Uber”. The Uber came but the women never emerged from Pearce’s apartment. They both busy dying of drug poisoning.
Who were the two women who lived? After the story broke in the news, the women went to the police saying that they too had been lured to Pearce’s apartment under the pretext that they all were going to a concert. Turns out, there was no concert. When they arrived at Pearce’s apartment he insisted that they have a drink that he had prepared for them. Sensing something was off and the drink may have drugs in it, both women declined and immediately left. They lived to tell the story.
This story made me cringe. Two women got into a car with three males they didn’t know? You know what happens? Whatever those three guys want to happen, because they are bigger, stronger, and they have the women in an enclosed space. Keep this in mind whenever you enter a car, apartment, or any private space with someone who is bigger and can control the situation.
Second mistake, accepting a drink from someone you don’t know. Drugging women is as old as time. As a matter of fact, Pearce had been accused of drugging and sexually assaulting 7 other women since 2010 but the L.A.P.D. could never get sufficient evidence to prosecute him.
Lastly, the women who survived trusted their intuition, didn’t drink the drugged beverage, and got out of there ASAP.
L.A.P.D. finally had enough evidence given that Cristy and Hilda’s cell phone records show that the last messages they sent were from his apartment. He is being charged with manslaughter as is one of the other men.
